World Thinking Day

Tomorrow night is World Thinking Day for all the Girl Scout troops in Westford.  Bree's Brownie troop was assigned France and Ireland.  Bree is on "Team Ireland."  Her job was to research food in Ireland, and in doing so we learned about brack - a special type of irish bread made with dried fruits.  We found a recipe for a Tea Brack that looked appealing, so we decided to experiment.

The first step was macerating some dried fruit and candied lemon peel in black tea (and maybe a splash of whisky.....) overnight.

Bree helped with some more of the prep before school the next morning.

We were hoping to do the baking together in the afternoon, but upon closer inspection of the recipe, we wouldn't have had enough time for it to finish before this evening's event.

Instead,  the kids came home from school and got to enjoy some still-warm tea brack as an after school snack. It was pretty darn good -- especially warm!

Auntie Doreen had given Bree a few authentic kilts from Scotland.  They came in pretty handy for dressing the part for tonight's event.  Bree wore the one pictured below, and we loaned two others to friends in her troop.

Plenty of brack to share with the Westford Girl Scouts.

Team Ireland.   Nicely done, ladies.  <3
